Partnerships
Age Concern Newcastle, The Elders Council and a better life in later life, with support from Newcastle City Council, formed a Partnership Development Group to draw up proposals and an action plan for the first 18 months of the Partnership.
The Quality of Life Partnership has been developed to provide a platform through which older people and agencies can work on the way mainstream services address the issues that are important to older people and to develop new services where needed. Older people will participate at all stages and levels of the Partnership to ensure that the Partnership's agenda is based on their needs and aspirations. The Elder Council of Newcastle is taking the lead on the involvement of older people.
The Quality of Life Partnership wants older people to:
- Feel valued and respected as an integral part of the community.
- Be able to participate and contribute to their community.
- Have every opportunity to remain independent and make choices.
- Be able to live full and active lives.
- Feel financially secure.
- Feel safe and secure.
- Receive the most effect support from the care system, if required.
It is intended that the Partnership will link with other initiatives locally and regionally. Links have already been established with the new North East Forum on Ageing, and through the Elders Council with the Older People's Advisory Group in the North East.
The Partnership will: monitor and evaluate all the programmes of work under its umbrella as required by funders; commission independent evaluation designed to help the Partnership to reflect and learn as it develops and to implement the learning at all stages of its development; seek evidence from partner agencies as to whether it has helped agencies to improve their services for older people.
